QUICK TIPS FOR COMBATING SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN YOUR PLACE OF WORK
Controlling sexual harassment in your workplace shouldn’t get complacent.
Always make sure that you remember, sexual harassment is not acceptable no matter what, whatever the size of the business. Sexual harassment in any work place should never happen or should be reported.
For any person in a workplace, you should think about going to sexual harassment prevention training. The next hire could put them at risk and they need to be prepared.
For a small business with inadequate resources, the following practices are a good start to avoiding sexual harassment in the workplace:
Training. This simply cannot be said enough, making sure that every single person in the workplace realizes sexual harassment is NOT okay and will not be tolerated.
Training is the best, but not everyone will partake in this. Every business, regardless of size, should have a policy that every employee, manager, etc must read and understand. Sexual harassment is all over the Internet and so are ways to avoid it; look online and implement these things into your business.
Reacting to complaints appropriately is important. Have a procedure in place where employees can express their concerns in private, without having to involve the harasser while reporting. Treat every concern seriously and don’t brush off rumors without giving them the attention they deserve.
Sometimes, issues can be resolute with a meeting to go over the rules of workplace and making clear what is not allowed.
Continued issues may require an “investigation” or to be looked into.
Do your best to avoid or handle harassment situations that may get out of hand. However, the best way to handle complaints about harassment in the workplace is to not have any because your work force knows how to behave. Be sure all employees are given guidelines on workplace ethics. Keep an eye out for actions that just brush the line between “okay” and “not okay” and put a stop to them before they escalate.
